  • Apply For Permanent Residency

2) Work Route:

  • Critical Skills Employment Permit: The Irish Critical Skills Employment Permit is a job-offer based work permit that allows immigrants to work in Ireland in a role that pays at least €60,000 per year, or at least €30,000 per year if the job is on Ireland’s Highly Skilled Occupations List. Either the worker or the employer can apply for this visa.

3) Business Route:

  • Irish Start-up Entrepreneur Program Visa: The Irish Start-up Entrepreneur Visa Programme allows experienced business people with an innovative business plan to gain long term residence in Ireland. To take advantage of this programme you must intend to introduce a ‘new or innovative product or service’ to International markets, as well as have €75,000 in start-up funds.

4) Other Routes:

  • Dependent/Partner/Spouse Employment Permit: The Irish Dependent/Partner/Spouse Employment Permit allows the family members of certain Irish work permit holders to live and work in Ireland.

Different types for Visa stamps:

  • Stamp 1: You will receive a Stamp 1 on your passport in the following cases:
    • If you will work or operate a business in Ireland (on an Employment Permit).
    • If you are in Ireland with a Working Holiday Visa.

The conditions of this stamp include: You cannot work unless your employer has obtained an Employment Permit on your behalf. If you don’t have an employment permit, you cannot work unless you get a letter of permission from INIS. You must have private medical insurance.

  • Stamp 4: You will receive the Ireland Stamp 4 in the following cases:
    • Critical Skills Employment Permit
    • Valid employment Permit
    • Upon renewal of your Employment Permit as a Researcher under a Hosting Agreement.
    • If you had another type of Irish work permit for 5 years.
    • If you want to join your spouse/civil partner/de facto partner who is an Irish citizen.
    • If you want to join a family member who is an EU/EEA/Swiss national (Stamp 4 EUFam).
    • If you are a convention or programme refugee.
    • If you have been granted subsidiary protection.
    • If you want to join a family member who is a recognized refugee.
    • If you are the holder of an Ireland Investor Visa or their family member.
    • If you have received an Irish Permanent Residence Permit.

The conditions of the Ireland Stamp 4 are: You can work without having to apply for a work permit. You can start your own business. You have access to state services and funds.

  • Long Term Residency is granted on the basis that
    • A non-EEA national has completed a minimum of five years (i.e. 60 months) legal residence in the State on work permit conditions which is reflected in the corresponding Stamp 1 or Stamp 4 endorsements on a person’s passport (not by the dates of commencement and expiry of each work permit/work authorisation/working visa).
    • Periods of time for which a person has not been legally resident in the state (i.e. does not have an up to date endorsement on their passport) cannot be counted towards an application for Long Term Residency.
    • A successful applicant in this situation will be granted Permission to Remain on a Stamp 4 which is valid for 5 years.
  • Temporary stamp 1: permission granted to applicants in order for them to apply for a new employment permit will not be counted towards their eligibility for this scheme.  Only stamp 1 permissions where the applicant held a valid employment permit issued to them by the Department of Enterprise, Trade and Employment will be reckonable for this scheme.
  • The spouse and/or dependant(s) of the applicant for Long Term Residency may also apply for Long Term Residency.
    • In order to apply for Long Term Residency as a spouse/dependant, the applicant must be legally resident in the State as a spouse/dependant for the required 60 month period(i.e. a minimum of 5 years).
    • Successful applications from those who apply as a spouse/dependant will be granted Permission to Remain on a Stamp 3 (join your spouse). This particular long term permission does not exempt the spouse/dependant(s) from employment permit requirements.
    • It should be noted that in order to submit an application for Long Term Residency as a Spouse/Dependant (Stamp 3) you must be the Spouse/Dependant of an applicant who has already been granted Long Term Residency on Stamp 4 conditions.
